Le diesel de 160 ch boite manuelle séquipe doffice du système Stop and Start. Un dispositif surtout efficace en ville, où il permet de limiter la consommation à 8,5l au 100 km. Malgré lembonpoint, le bloc ne peine pas à bas régime. Un regret toutefois : la boite est trop longue et létouffe sur les derniers rapports. Côté comportement, il est confortable, rassurant et aussi à laise sur le bitume que dans la boue. Lhabitabilité, cétait le talon dachille du 1er Freelander. Land Rover a bien retenu la leçon.
